Midsummer Triathlon

Post-race

Bill did his first tri yesterday--it was so awesome to see him not only survive the 880m swim, but not do too badly in it. His bike and run were, of course, great. I will let him tell you the story on his blog, when it's updated.

I won my first gold medal in my age group, but that has to be qualified: There was one woman faster than me (9 minutes faster!) who won the overall women's title. Because she won that, she couldn't also win age group. So I got it. It's cool nonetheless!

My wave went first, and I had a good swim. Being in the first wave and one of the first 10 or so people out of the water, the bike course was nice and empty. I managed 19mph out Marine Drive, and around 20 back. The run felt not-so-hot, as my legs didn't seem to want to move very fast. Maybe I should have done more bricks? : ) I averaged about 30s/mile slower than I'd hoped to.

Anyway, it was a ton of fun, and great to do it with Bill. I'm hoping to do some more sprints next year--and drag him along with me.
